National identity has great importance for society and the state, as it acts as a force that binds the members of society and protects it from divisions, so that every individual obtains his rights and enjoys prosperity within his society based on his national identity and regardless of his social or economic status, religion, age, and other individual differences, National identity is defined as the national form of life that an individual lives within his community in an involuntary or chosen manner. National identity is controlled by some features such as language, morals, and societal customs that exist in the surrounding area and are linked to nationalism. An individual is distinguished from others through his personal characteristics, culture, inclinations, etc., and this is by his choice. Personal identity controls the emergence of voluntary affiliation in the individual, which strengthens national identity. The Council of Economic and Development Affairs has set 25 goals for the program to strengthen the Saudi personality, including direct and indirect ones, and among the goals are Directly consolidating the values of tolerance, moderation, and justice, in addition to transparency, perseverance, and strengthening belonging to the homeland, and believing in the importance of strengthening national identity, it has had a share of attention in the programs of Vision 2030, and an example of this is holding the activities of the International Conference on National Identity in light of Vision 2030, whose activities were launched in the month of Jumada al-Akhirah. From the year 1441 AH, under the patronage of the Minister of Education, Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh, and with the participation of 34 speakers from inside and outside the Kingdom, the International Conference on National Identity in light of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which was organized by Shaqra University in the King Faisal Conference Hall in Riyadh, at the conclusion of its scientific sessions, recommended pride in the Islamic religion and Islamic civilization. And its history, and preserving the Arabic language, as it is a fundamental component of our identity, and working to preserve its sovereignty and uniqueness with love and loyalty, and emphasizing what the Kingdom’s vision brought about in preserving the intellectual system and moral system in Saudi society, as stated in the recommendations, the necessity of emphasizing all national educational sectors. Non-educational and research centers on the centrality of heritage and national history in strengthening national identity, rebuilding national history curricula to ensure the integrity of its content and aspects of its contribution to strengthening national identity, supporting cooperation between universities and the King Abdulaziz Foundation, to invest in the national historical reserve to enhance national belonging, and urging academic specialists. in history, heritage and culture in Saudi universities to contribute to the transfer of national knowledge to the younger generation according to modern means of communication, and to review and develop specializations in the departments of human studies in Saudi universities, to graduate a generation capable of working in new national projects in the fields of heritage and culture.
